Cloud Shadows by David Gale Wright

As the rose opens
only to the sun –
so am I to you.

I follow your arc
Across azure sky –
facing radiance.

Lost in cloud shadows,
I forgo the rain –
drought of tender heat.

With dusk come moonlight
and faint stars, planets –
imitators all.

I would tear the earth
from under me to
end each fearful night.
